Diving
requires a PADI card (PADI courses available). Peninsula dives include wreck
dives, marine life, and some coral.
Surfing Cape Town has great surf - the different oceans
mean you always have a good chance of finding some waves somewhere on the
Peninsula - try Blouberg and Big Bay, Noordhoek, Kommetjie, Glen Beach or
Llandudno. For gentle waves try Muizenberg. There is a surf school where you
can learn in a day.
River Canoeing Gentle and white water options are
available; trips vary from one to four days and are available in the Cape Town
Winelands or on the Breede or Orange (Gariep) rivers. Well established
companies offer some great river tours.
Sea Canoeing Guided sea canoe trips are available, from
one hour to full day trips.
Shark Diving is available in cages around the coast -
but we suggest diving at the aquarium with NO cage (PADI required).
Power boating in Table Bay (2 hours) .
Jet bikes 760 cc 2 seater jet bikes (aka jet
skis).
'Big Game' Sea Fishing choose a four hour trip or a full
day.
Sandboarding near Cape Town (full day).
Sailboarding (Windsurfing) Popular around Blouberg on
the lake, or at sea.
Quad biking on a 4x4 track (3 hours) |
| Air |
Tandem Skydiving (half day) from 9,500 feet, 30 second
freefall.
Tandem Paraglide (half day) are available from Lion's
Head and the Cederberg Mountains.
Helicopters Flight options vary
from a 20 minute flip to the one hour Peninsula flight.
A wonderful experience is to fly into the Winelands, have a
great lunch and fly back (these trips include some of the Peninsula and
Blouberg).
Planes prop-driven aircraft are available for the one
hour Peninsula trip. Flights leave from Cape Town International Airport. A
wonderful 2 hour trip goes over the Winelands and apple growing areas, along
the south coast and out to Robben Island.
Fighter Aircraft the BIG thrill is being trained to go
up in a Lightning Interceptor (ejection technique, navigation, survival etc)
and then go on an 'attack mission' at supersonic speeds. SERIOUS! These half
day trips are offered by Thunder City. |

Caving there are more than 80 caves in the Cape
Peninsula mountains, the Boomslang Cave is 146m long. This is not a
well-developed sport in Cape Town, but you can contact the Cape Peninsula
Spelaeological Society.
Climbing There are hundreds of climbing routes up Table
Mountain and an enthusiastic climbing fraternity. Call the Mountain Club of
South Africa. Be aware that you need to well-equipped and fit, as there are
fatalities every year.

our page on walking Table Mountain. |
