Trip Planner and Specialist Guide
|
|
|
In 1988 Roddy completed boarding school in
England, packed a rucsac and flew to Nairobi. After climbing Kilimanjaro and
touring Kenya and the Serengeti he made his way south, via Victoria Falls, to
Cape Town, where he worked for a year in a township children's home during the
troubled apartheid era.
He completed a BA in Anthropology at Durham in England, but his love for Africa
brought him back to complete a Masters in Anthropology at the University of
Cape Town.
In 1997 he became a specialist tour guide for private clients and educational
groups. In 2000 he started his own touring company, African Dawn Touring.
Roddy works as a guide and trip planner and has developed considerable
experience designing top-end safaris and tours throughout East and Southern
Africa. He continues to enjoy guiding in the Cape Town area and speaking at
events. He is known for providing an in-depth understanding of the city and
South Africa, with passion and humor.
He also writes a regular 'Story-Letter' and
records MP3 podcasts: see Audio Guides. He has
worked in township development, and re-established the programmes of WorldTeach
in Cape Town, bringing volunteer teachers to needy schools.
Roddy is married to Dr Rachel Bray, an anthropologist focused upon youth
studies, and they live south of Cape Town.

"Roddy Bray is head and shoulders above any
other guide/ trip planner in Southern Africa" Karen Feldt, Founder of
Select Travel, Seattle
"The logistics were excellent and Roddy's range of knowledge
about the country and the people... made the trip an extraordinary opportunity.
An experience of a lifetime! It fulfilled my expectations and more".
Dr. Margaret Simms , Joint Centre for Politics and Economics, Washington DC
"Roddy, you exceeded our highest expectations. Thank you
so much for the itinerary
..we had the time of our lives.
Perfect
..big thanks from both of us". Len Williamson, Leadership
Coach, UK
"A fabulously fantastic time. Capetown was wonderful, we
could easily live there... the Singita Sweni lodge was incredible and the
wildlife was unparalled. It was way beyond what we imagined it could be, and I
could not more strongly recommend Sweni and Singita. It was perfect in every
wayRon Unnerstall, Vice-President, BP
"It was a real pleasure to meet you and be shown the sights of the Cape
Province by you. You obviously have a real talent for bringing the flora,
fauna, culture and history of the Cape to life in a very evocative way. We will
definitely be back to Cape Town. Thankyou for all your efforts not just in Cape
Town but in organising the entire holiday so brilliantly." Akeel
Sachak, Managing Director, Rothschild Investment Bank
"Thank you for organising such a fantastic holiday for us. We all really
enjoyed the time we spent in South Africa and really appreciate the help you
gave us in planning our itinerary, booking accommodation and planning our
routes." Susie Orme & Family, UK
"I cannot thank you enough for all your help. For both of us, it was truly
the trip of a life time. We had wondered whether the safari element of the
holiday would live up to the rest of the trip but if anything it by far
exceeded the first two weeks. The reserve was amazing, the animals were
incredible and the hospitality was unbelievable. I'm not necessarily a 'nature
person' but I loved every moment of our time in the reserve. My favourite
aspects was having dinner under the stars in the middle of a watering
hole." Robert Markham, UK
"Another successful, educational and fun experience! Thanks so much,
Roddy. It all worked out beautifully thanks to the care you took to arrange it
all. Much
appreciated!" Prof. Barbara Temple-Thurston, Pacific Lutheran
University, Seattle |
